HArmonyCa® Hybrid dermal filler at The Hogarth MediSpa, Chiswick, West London with dual action: it gives an immediate lift (HA=Hyaluronic Acid) and sustained collagen stimulation (Ca=calcium hydroxyapatite) in a single injection.
HArmonyCa® with Lidocaine is the newest add-on to Allergan’s Juvederm® soft-tissue filler range. This hybrid injectable treatment provides an immediate, long-lasting lifting effect as CaHA triggers new collagen synthesis within the skin.
HArmonyCa® is a dual effect, hybrid dermal filler; the latest to complement Allergan’s Juvederm range. It combines the benefits of the traditional HA fillers (immediate, visible lift) with CaHA spheres (long-term lifting through collagen synthesis).
This unique blend of ingredients helps remodel the skin, resulting in an immediate refreshed look. Significant improvements have been demonstrated with HArmonyCa® in a clinical study.
HArmonyCa® has its specific role in a holistic treatment plan. Usually, it is not something that patients ask for, such as Profhilo®. Dr Bela will talk about HArmonyCa® as part of your tailor-made treatment plan if it is suitable for you and if you would benefit from it.
HArmonyCa® is for patients with wrinkles on the side of the face in front of the ears, especially when smiling.
HArmonyCa® can target and treat the lateral aspect of the face only, not the lips or neck.
The main differences between HArmonyCa® and the rest of the Juvederm range are the following:
– HArmonyCa® has a long-lasting effect on the quality of this skin by improving its structure beyond the longevity of the HA component.
– HArmonyCa® treats the superficial under-layer of the skin, while the other Juvederm volumizing fillers are placed in the depth of the tissues either on boney foundation or in the fat layers.
– Due to the superficial placement of HArmonyCa®, it doesn’t have most of the possible complications of soft tissue fillers, such as vascular occlusion.
HArmonyCa® is injected into the lateral part of the face in a superficial (sub-dermal) manner. Due to its dual-action, the HA (Hyaluronic Acid) component provides an immediate lifting effect, while the CaHA (Calcium Hydroxyapatite) spheres trigger continuous collagen stimulation through activating fibroblasts. As a result, new collagen fibres may be present as early as one week following treatment.
HArmonyCa® is a hybrid filler, which means that it has two beneficial components. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) and Calcium Hydroxyapatite (CaHA) spheres.
HA: an immediate lifting effect with the longevity of over a year.
CaHA: gradually appearing, long-lasting collagen synthesis triggered by the CaHA spheres, which improves the structure and fullness of the skin beyond the longevity of the HA component.
The result is smoother skin with fewer wrinkles or dynamic lines at the sides of the face. The new collagen fibres may be present as early as one week following treatment.
The product also contains Lidocaine which immediately numbs the treatment area and makes the procedure more comfortable for the patient.
The HArmonyCa® treatment is performed using a cannula. It means fewer needle pricks and safer delivery compared to needles. It is a superficial procedure in the under-layer of the skin on the side of the face.
At Dr Bela Clinic, a 45-minute appointment is required if you have had cosmetic treatments here before. If you are a new patient, your journey starts with an initial aesthetic consultation.
After the initial photographs are taken, the skin will be thoroughly cleansed, and the injection points marked up. HArmonyCa® is administered superficially into the skin, so numbing cream is not needed and the treatment is safe.
There are 1-3 injection points per side. The procedure comes with minimal discomfort, and is easy to manage. Straight after the treatment, the skin will be cleansed again gently and massaged with arnica gel to smooth out the CaHA spheres evenly.
Dr Bela will apply Profhilo’s Haenkenium cream, which contains hyaluronic acid and Salvia haenkei extract with natural antioxidant effects. This cream protects, restores and further improves your skin.
Finally, you will leave with Viscoderm Cover UP, a sterile fluid foundation especially developed for safe, post-treatment application.
One treatment consists of the application of 2 syringes of HArmonyCa® (2×1.2ml). If needed (recommended) the session can be repeated in 6-12 months’ time for better results (with half or one syringe per side).
HArmonyCa® is administered into the skin superficially. So, it is safe and comes with minimal discomfort.
Injection site bruising is highly unlikely, but it can happen. Commonly occurring minimal side effects (redness, swelling, pain, tenderness and itching) are manageable and self-limiting. The product also contains Lidocaine which makes the procedure more comfortable for the patient by immediately numbing the treatment area. If you have an allergy to Lidocaine or any other filler components, please notify Dr Bela before the procedure.
After the treatment, please don’t touch the injection points to avoid infection. Exercise and sauna should be avoided on the day, and alcohol consumption is not recommended.
The treatment consists of the administration of 2 syringes of HArmonyCa® dermal fillers (1 syringe of 1.25ml each side). Depending on the particular patient’s clinical needs, another 1 or 2 syringes can be used in 6 to 12 months to complement the results.
Yes, these treatment modalities beautifully complement each other; however, there are some considerations.
Botox®, which is the treatment mainly for the upper third of the face (frown, forehead and crows feet areas) can be given during the same appointment.
For the middle and lower third of the face, where age-related volume loss and skin laxity show up the most, fillers are the primary treatment option.
Here we have three main options: hyaluronic acid (HA) volumizing fillers, Hybrid (HA+CaHA) fillers which improve the skin quality as well and Profhilo®. Watch this short video to understand how these products can be combined in a holistic treatment plan.
Important caveat: deep volumizing fillers such as Juvederm Voluma and HArmonyCa® can be used in the same area but not during the same treatment. We need to wait six weeks before administering HArmonyCa®, especially if the previous procedure was performed by means of cannulas.
HArmonyCa® with Lidocaine comes with two needles in the box. Despite this, this product cannot be administered by needles, only by 22G cannulas. Please, ensure that your practitioner uses a cannula.
The procedure and the placement of HArmonyCa® is relatively unique compared to other volumizing fillers in a way that it needs to be administered at the deep level of the skin. This particular technique can be learnt during hands-on training by an experienced trainer focusing on this very product. So, ensure that your practitioner has had this training with HArmonyCa®. If the procedure doesn’t happen in the correct layer but deeper, there might be other negative consequences, such as the long-term collagen synthesis triggering effect of CaHA will be less or doesn’t appear at all.
