Excessive sweating at the underarm area - Dr Bela Clinic

Botulinum toxin is a widely used treatment with over 26 therapeutic uses in more than 80 countries. It is one of the most popular non-surgical treatments globally. Since 2004, it has been approved in the UK for treating underarm sweating. The toxin works by targeting and blocking acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that activates sweat glands. When acetylcholine is blocked, the sweat glands do not receive the signal to produce sweat, leading to reduced sweating. This effect lasts for about 5 to 6 months, providing significant relief from excessive sweating.

Yes, they are completely safe. There is no downtime or side effects. Patients are very satisfied with the results. The effectiveness is excellent, making it a reliable solution for those dealing with underarm sweating. Many find it to be a life-changing treatment.

After cleaning the armpits, the treatment area is marked up to equal areas where the injections are administered with a very fine 32G needle superficially just beneath the skin. The discomfort is very minimal and the process doesn’t take mare the 20 minutes. Dr Bela uses Allergan’s botulinum toxin 50U per armpit.

It takes about 3 days for the effects to kick in and another week to develop completely. The duration of the effect is somewhere between 5 to 6 months when it could be repeated. There are no long-term side effects reported.

The treatment for two armpits is £420 (2x50U of Botox).
